When it comes to commercial buildings or automotive shops, that find themselves with leaked contaminant oil spills, or that eventually leach under their property, they are faced with a troublesome situation. Due to the difficult access, dealing with these time-sensitive Environmental situations, excavating underneath the commercial building must be completed swiftly, and professionally to guarantee a certified and reclaimed site. In addition, our experience working alongside commercial condominiums, foundations and with a wide array of professional engineering firms within Edmonton, provides us with the knowledge to plan and execute a detailed approach to reclaiming your commercial site.
How do you begin remediation or reclamation of contaminated soil underneath a commercial building?
The process of remediation includes temporarily supporting the building with underpinning methods such as screw piles, while the contaminated soil under the commercial building can be tested, excavated, and filled in with clean soil or Fill-Crete material. The first step is approaching a Geotechnical engineering firm to first perform phase testing on the soils, under the contaminated area to identify the area that needs to be excavated and reclaimed. Then piling is used to temporarily support the commercial building, while the soils are excavated. Once removed, further Geotechnical testing occurs to confirm all contaminated soils have been removed. Then a Fill-Crete material is back-filled into the area to cover the void.
Removal of concrete floors may be required to gain access to the contaminated soils, but are later replaced once the phase testing has been completed and the contaminated soils removed.
Do you provide any warranty or guarantee that our contaminated soil will be reclaimed after the project?
All of the remediation testing, certification and guarantees are included within the engineered phase testing & work plan. This process initiated by the involved 3rd part engineering firm, identifies how much soil and where to remove, before finally back-filling the contaminated area with clean material or a fill-Crete material.
Further recommendations may be made by the associated engineer on how to address & catch any future spills before they are then able to contaminate the ground again.
